Administering Solid Waste Management

Renewable energy developer, Hedcor continues to offer better solutions as they roam elementary and high schools to conduct solid waste management seminars.

In its quest of preserving the environment, Hedcor extends its force to schools as they empower students to make positive contributions to the environment. Rizal and Lucban Elem. Schools pupils actively participated in the initiative. Bineng National High School also took part while Ampusongan and Banengbeng National High Schools will have its turn later this month.

Head Teacher, Daniel L. Peredo of Bineng National High School expressed his gratitude in behalf of the school saying, “This is really important initiative that will serve as an eye-opener to the students.”

The progressing seminar held at schools within Hedcor’s host communities aims to educate students about the fundamentals of proper waste management. The seminar includes diverse topics on segregation and disposal, laws covering waste management, classifications of wastes and the four ‘R’s’ of waste management namely reduce, reuse, recycle and recover.

Cranep Udan, Hedcor’s Environmental Officer introduced creative ways on how to turn trashes into useful crafts that wowed the students. Local photos of clogged rivers were also shown that astounded the students.

At the end of each session, Hedcor’s Community Officer Romy Catingub, left a challenge for all the students, “Do something today that your future self will thank you for”

This project had already educated thousands since it was launched in 2007. The solid waste management seminar is part of Hedcor’s clean river initiatives wherein they partner with communities in caring for the environment. Through this, sustainability of watersheds are ensured resulting to ample water supply for the power plants.

Hedcor also conducts Eco Market Day which aims to encourage local communities to collect and segregate their recyclable wastes. Tree planting initiatives are constantly undertaken and river clean ups are actualized.

Aside from being an environment friendly organization, Hedcor also prioritizes education through their corporate social responsibility. Host communities have been benefiting from programs such as college scholarships, high school assistance and computer donations.

Hedcor is a wholly-owned subsidiary of AboitizPower specializing in run-of-river hydropower. They manage and operate 19 plants in Benguet, Ilocos Sur and Davao with a total capacity of 155MW.
