Benguet Coops went through Aboitiz Capability Training

Thanksgiving Multipurpose Cooperative of Tuba, Barangay Alapang Multipurpose Cooperative and Lamut Multipurpose Cooperative of La Trinidad gathered in Baguio City for the annual capability training conducted by the Aboitiz Foundation and Hedcor.

Basic Cooperative Course, Cooperative Management and Governance, Financial Management, Conflict Management, Leadership and Values Reorientation, Strategic Planning, Internal Control, Rules Formulation, Cooperative Standards and Policy Development were the topics discussed during the six-day training.

These trainings ensured that projects handled by Hedcor’s partner cooperatives are sustainable and that they are not only empowered and equipped with the right set of skills in handling their businesses but ultimately make capital easily accessible to them.

According to the 2014 statistics provided by Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), the government agency mandated to promote the viability and growth of cooperatives in the Philippines, the 10,762 registered cooperatives nationwide employed 290,662 individuals. These registered cooperatives generate around P248 billion worth of assets.

However, CDA notes that only 14% of the total population are members of cooperatives, of which 3.8% is from Cordillera Administrative Region. This is very far from other Asian countries like Japan which brags that 99% of their population are members of cooperatives.
