BNHS receives five computer units from Hedcor and AGFI

Committed to equip the youth in public education with IT skills and knowledge, Hydro Electric Development Corporation (Hedcor) and the Aboitiz Group Foundation Inc. (AGFI), donated last December 2003, five computer sets to Benguet National High School, Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet.

The computers each came with a Windows XP home edition software, a 2003 Encarta Encyclopedia CD, and an HP colored printer.

“Hedcor and AGFI recognize the important role of information technology in the 21st century and the necessity for schools of host communities to keep pace with the times,” said Hedcor VP for admin and operations Gregorio Jabonillo, who was on hand to turn over the computer units to the school.

“We would like to thank Hedcor and AGFI for this donation, we are all very happy for the additional computers,” said BNHS principal Cerila Taynan.

Before the donation, BNHS had a total of six computer units in their laboratory; three of them were donated by Hedcor last January 2003.

“We have 2,437 students in this school. The limited number of computers force us to offer the computer subject as an elective to only 30 students per year level,” Taynan disclosed. “We hope to accommodate more students with this donation,” she added.

Hedcor is currently coordinating with the mayor’s office of La Trinidad for the renovation of the school’s computer lab. Hedcor will shoulder 50% of the rehabilitation cost.

Hedcor, a Benguet-based company, is the largest developer of mini hydropower in the Philippines producing an average of 164 million kilowatt-hours of clean and renewable energy annually.

AGFI is the social development arm of the Aboitiz Group of Companies.
