Environmental initiatives and best labor practices

Benguet. Run-of-river hydropower developer Hedcor, Inc. received multiple awards in 2011 for its environmental initiatives and commendable labor relations.

On May 4, 2011 the employees Confederation of the Philippines recognized Hedcor as one of 13 finalists in the Kapatiran sa Industriya or KAPATID Awards for its excellence in practices and strategies in maintaining harmonious relations between the management, employees and the community.
Then again, Hedcor received the award for Most Outstanding Labor-Management Cooperation (LMC) for Industrial Peace. The award was given by the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) and the Philippine League of Labor-Management Practitioners in an awards ceremony held in Naga City on October 9, 2011.
Hedcor’s LMC known as the Kabisig Council was formed in 2005. The Kabisig Council, which translates to “arm-in-arm,” always gives time for Hedcor’s Corporate Social Responsibility projects to its host communities. They do not hesitate to volunteer particularly during tree planting activities, medical programs, Brigada Eskwela and Livelihood projects to name a few activities.
Hedcor’s environmental initiatives were also recognized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Cordillera Administrative Region (DENR-CAR) when it was named as a finalist in the Search for Environmental Partners Award in July last year.
And in late December 2011, the company was awarded a Track 1 Certification under the DENR’s Philippine Environment Partnership Program or PEPP.

Being a Track 1 Certification awardee means the company enjoys a working relationship with the DENR with relaxed reportorial procedures, simplified requirements for securing Environmental Compliance Certificates and longer validity periods of issued permits.

Hedcor’s environmental initiatives went full throttle last year as it reached a new milestone in its reforestation target for the year, planting over 100,000 trees around its host communities and adopted watershed.
Hedcor, Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of AboitizPower, operating 18 run-of-river hydropower plants within Benguet, Davao and Ilocos Sur with a total capacity of 150MWs. The company is ISO certified for Environment Management, Quality Management and Occupational Health and Safety.
