Hedcor joins anew the community’s continuous battle in re-greening the forest as they joined forces with the Local Government Unit of La Trinidad in a tree planting activity last June 5.
About 840 pine trees were planted in Alapang Communal Forest, La Trinidad, Benguet which was participated by the different operators and engineers of Hedcor’s hydropower plants in Ampohaw, Bineng and Bakun. The LGU’s of Alapang and its Sanguniang Kabataan (SK) were also there in support of the initiative.
This activity backs the national re-greening program (NGP) of President Benigno Aquino III. The NGP targets the planting of 1.5 billion trees, covering 1.5 million hectares for a period of six years up to 2016.
For the past years, several reforestation activities had been actively participated and undertaken by Hedcor. This year’s Aboitiz wide tree planting taking place on July is one. It targets three million trees in seven years. Other initiatives include partnership with cause-oriented groups and residents of host communities.
To top it all, each Hedcor employee is tasked to plant 20 seedlings in a year. The company is nurturing a nursery where most of the seedlings come from. Moreover, Hedcor conducts river clean up drives in partnership with Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) program Adopt-an-Estero launched in 2012.
Hedcor is an ISO 14001 certified for Environment Management System, a manifesto of its commitment and dedication to the preservation of the environment.
A wholly-owned subsidiary of the AboitizPower, Hedcor operates 19 run-of-the river hydro-power plants in Benguet and Davao with a total capacity of 155MW of clean and renewable energy.
