Hedcor leads environmental essay contest awarding

Aboitiz-owned Hydro Electric Development Corporation (Hedcor), led the awarding ceremonies of the 3rd World Environment Day Essay Writing Contest (WED-EWC) last December 06, 2004 onboard SuperFerry 17, while inport at the Eva Macapagal Super Terminal.

The winner of this year’s WED-EWC is Neil Andrew Llorente, a junior of
Santa Maria High School in Iloilo City. He bested 358 entries from
155 high schools nationwide sent in and sorted by 2GO Express and
SuperFerry.

Only five finalists were selected and were flown in recently to Manila
for an on-the-spot essay-writing finale. The theme for the
on-the-spot essay finals was “Clean energy for tomorrow.”

“We intend to start educating the youth on the benefits of clean and
renewable energy because they are the future,” said Hedcor VP for
Admin Miguel Romero-Salas.

The other finalists were: Angerica Armenta, 1st runner up, Theresian
School of Cavite, Kawit, Cavite; Mary Gold Pinera; 2nd runner up,
Cagayan National High School, Tuguegarao City; Brisneve Edullantes,
Finalist, Don Andres Soraino National High School, Toledo City, Cebu;
and Althea Fabrero, Finalist, St. Augustine International School,
Marfori Heights, Davao City.

Organized in cooperation with 2GO Express, SuperFerry, and United
Nations Information Centre for the Philippines (UNIC), the WED-EWC,
with the theme, “The benefits of clean and renewable energy,” was
launched nationwide for High School students in time for the World
Environment Day to increase awareness and appreciation of clean and
renewable energy.

Present during the event were Miguel Romero-Salas, HEDCOR VP-Admin;
Gina Virtusio, ATS PR & Corporate Communications Manager; Pamela
Liwag, 2GO Express Marketing Assistant; Sylvia Inciong, UNIC National
information Officer and Inquirer columnist and environmental radio
talk show host Emily Marcelo.
