Hedcor maintains international standards

Run-of-river hydropower forerunner Hedcor, Inc. successfully completed the Certification International Philippines’ (CIP) four day surveillance audit last March 4 with zero non-conformity. The surveillance audit is for the maintenance of the company’s ISO 9001:2008 certificate for Quality Management Systems (QMS), ISO 14001:2004 for Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and its OHSAS 18001:2007 for Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series standards.

The certificates signify the company’s compliance to internationally accepted standards set by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). To assure the upkeep of standards, the certificates are subject for renewal every three years with an annual surveillance audit for maintenance.

The surveillance covered both offices in Benguet and Davao along with its hydropower plants and existing projects. Plants and offices were reported by the CIP to be properly maintained, commending Hedcor on its awareness of the requirements of its integrated management system.

Hedcor’s first ISO certificate, the QMS certificate, was handed out last 2000. This certifies the company for being able to effectively manage its organizational environment, needs, objectives, products, processes, size and organizational structure.

Its EMS certificate, which was handed out in 2002, certifies Hedcor for being capable of establishing and implementing their environmental management system while fully complying with existing environmental policies.

The OHSAS certificate, which was awarded to Hedcor just last year, is given to organizations that can effectively establish, maintain and improve their occupational health and safety system. The system minimizes risks to personnel of the company through its use of proper risk assessment.

With over 30 years in operation, Hedcor’s management systems are recognized nationwide. Its effective OS&S management system helped the company garner the Safety Milestone Award and the Labor Secretary’s Award, the highest honors of the Gawad Kaligtasan at Kalusugan award last 2010 by the department of Labor and Employment.
A wholly-owned company of AboitizPower, Hedcor, Inc., which operates a total of 15 run-or-river hydropower plants in Benguet and Davao, is set to renew its International Certificates on April, 2013.
