Kayapa residents get medical benefits

About 350 residents of barangay Kayapa in Bakun, Benguet benefited from a medical mission by AboitizPower subsidiary, Luzon Hydro Corporation (LHC). The mission is an annual initiative of the hydropower company in partnership with the Aboitiz Foundation and the Rotary Clubs of Baguio and Vigan.

The beneficiaries availed of free surgical, dental and pediatric care. Over 100,000 pesos worth of medicine was also given for free to needing community members.

Kayapa is a small barangay in the municipality of Bakun near the boundary between Benguet and Ilocos Sur. The remoteness of the place limits access to basic health facilities. In fact, the nearest hospital is found a few towns away – in Tagudin, Ilocos Sur.

“We are thankful for the support rendered by LHC through this medical mission because there are a lot of people who rely on this ever year.” exclaimed Kayapa Barangay Captain Samuel Talingan.

This is the third in a string of medical missions conducted by the company this year bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 1151.

The 70-MW Bakun AC plant in Ilocos Sur is operated by the Luzon  Hydro  Corporation  and  is  managed  by  Hedcor. Both companies are fully-owned subsidiaries of the Aboitiz Power Corporation.

Together under the Hedcor Group, Hedcor and LHC generate over 600 million kWhs of clean and renewable energy through run-of-river hydropower annually.
