Carbon footprint, expressed in equivalent tons of carbon dioxide (CO2), is the estimated amount of greenhouse gases (GHG) produced by daily activities of an individual, organization or product. The emission of GHG is the root cause of global warming.
The main source of GHG is the burning of fossil fuels for energy consumption and transportation. From household activities, to getting to places, all these activities emit harmful gases that contribute to the accumulation of GHG.
With the accumulation of GHG in the atmosphere, life, as we know it, is inevitably going to face extinction. And though activities to sustain our lifestyles may not be avoided, steps may be taken to mitigate the effects of: global warming – the heating of the earth’s surface as a whole; and climate change – the regional change in condition and temperature.
According to a research made by Economy and Environment Program for Southeast Asia (EEPSEA), the Philippines is among the most vulnerable countries to the impacts and manifestations of climate change in south east Asia.
With the annual footprint of the average Filipino of 0.9 tons of C02-equivalent (United Nations Development Programme 2002 Database), you can reduce your carbon footprint and help mitigate the impacts of global warming and climate change, here are some our practical and effective activies:
