Hedcor fire drill

Safety First: Hedcor

“Every team should be ready”, announced Hedcor president Rene Ronquillo during the Annual Safety and Skills Competition held last September 10 at Hedcor Office, Talomo Grounds, Barangay Mintal. Ronquillo pointed out that as a team who works near flood-prone areas, everyone should be prepared for whatever disaster may befall.

The whole day activity was well-attended by Hedcor employees, Philippine National Red Cross volunteers, Hedcor scholars from Tugbok and Mintal National High School, and guests from Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and Department of Labor and Employment.

Among the activities are contests gauging the participants’ knowledge on First Aid, Basic Life Support, firefighting, electrical wiring, driving and computer skills. The activities inspired the team to continuously seek a healthy and safe working environment.

The annual competition originated in Baguio, where the head office of Hedcor, Inc. is based. It was adopted in Davao this year as the Davao team is fast growing and two run-of-river hydropower plants in Barangay Sibulan, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur are expected to be operational soon.

Hedcor, Inc., with 15 hydropower plants in Benguet and in Davao was awarded the Gawad Kaligtasan and Kalugtusan Institutional Award by the Department of Labor and Employment – Occupational Safety and Health Center in 2008. Among its achievements was the one-million man hours of zero accidents in December 2004 and April 2008.
