The 21 run-of-river hydropower plants of Hedcor in Benguet, Ilocos Sur and Davao note zero accidents since the start of the year.
This has been possible through the implementation of the company’s various programs. Safety Programs, Risk Management and Business Continuity Plan are some of the programs uphold by the company. Having about 573 employees, the value of safety is embedded in Hedcor’s culture.
Recently, Hedcor concluded its 10th annual Safety and Skills Olympics. This is in coordination with government and non-government agencies, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), National Conciliation Management Board (NCMB), La Trinidad Bureau of Fire and Philippine National Red Cross.
The activity aims to strengthen occupational health and safety practices through a friendly competition. With the theme, “Safety begins with S but starts with You”, Hedcor together with sister company, SN AboitizPower, spread safety awareness in a day filled with activities.
Speaking on the event, DOLE-CAR Regional Director, Henry John Jalbuena representative Atty. Atty. Irwin Aquino assistant director of DOLE CAR, emphasized that employers are responsible in providing the needs of workers for safety. But safety on the job is the personal responsibility of the worker.
He also shared the ABCD safety equation whereby A-awareness; B-broad knowledge; C-to care; and D-discipline. NCMB Regional Director Lourdes Estioco intensified the idea with the 10 commandments of a safe workplace.
Activities on Personal Protective Equipment Donning, Knot Tying, Bandaging, Basic life support and Fire Fighting facilitated by Red Cross was a success.
Roseann Kiat-ong, an employee of Hedcor believes that these activities and friendly competition helps employees to recognize, review and understand their own safety and skill development needs.

Team Effort. Aside from instilling the value of safety, teamwork amongst each team get a boost during the Annual Safety and Skills Olympics. With high spirits, the team accomplished each task using the knowledge acquired from several trainings.
